Level 3 Engineer

ECOtality North America is currently looking for an engineer with experience with product development and expertise in embedded systems and electronics who will participate in hardware, software and systems development. Demonstrated experience with embedded controls (hardware) design and software/firmware development is a must. The ability to join science and ingenuity to solve unusual and complex problems is what we need. Candidates will demonstrate an ability to participate in and lead product development areas including design, test, certification and manufacturing. Candidates will also demonstrate an ability to participate in and lead team-based R&D projects. Candidates possessing some or all of these skills should apply.

Candidates will be self-starters, comfortable working with little supervision, will be capable of providing their own direction and will excel at learning new skills and technologies.

Product Development Engineer

  • Responsible for design and development of a new battery charger product for electric vehicles
  • Responsible for design and development of control and operating software (firmware and custom applications) for battery charging products
  • Responsible for design and development of printed circuit boards to provide control to battery charging products—including A/D, D/A, CAN, RS232, and RS485 interfaces, closed-loop control and operator interfaces
  • Responsible for working with customers to define and design communication interfaces and protocols to protect battery, vehicle and charging systems
  • Responsible for managing outside design resources and suppliers for various components and systems
  • Responsible for managing outside manufacturing resources and suppliers for the manufacture of this product.
  • Responsible for prototype testing and certification (UL, CSA,TÜV,CE)
  • Responsible for documenting hardware and software including manuals, schematics, drawings, flow charts, etc.
  • Participate in software/controls/IO development for one-off R&D projects

Required skills for Electronics Engineering Position:

  • Must have a BS/MS Electrical, Electronics and/or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience in product design and development lifecycle—3-7 years
  • Embedded C programming skills—3-10 years
  • Experience with various communication protocols (CAN,Modbus, RS232, RS485)—3 years
  • Demonstrated experience in printed circuit and embedded controls design—3 years
  • Technical writing skills
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings
  • Knowledge and use of, electrical hand tools
  • Must be able to work in a matrix-type environment
  • Ability to travel (<10%)
  • Fluency in Mandarin Chinese, including proficiency with technical vocabulary a strong plus

Salary Range:
$70,000 - $80,000 commensurate with skills and experience
